Hear the wind sing (The Rat trilogy #1)
A 21 year old unnamed narrator spends his summer back home, drinking with his friend “The Rat” at J’s bar and spending time with a aloof girl he drove home when she was too drunk and passed out on the bar’s bathroom floor. He narrates to us his life so far,he talks about the girls he loved in the past and how he came to want to write. This is Haruki Murakami’s first novel, the first book of the Rat chronicles that also include:Pinball, 1973 and A Wild Sheep Chase.
This is my 8th Murakami novel and one of my favourite.Pointless, all over the place,no plot to speak of and of course no closure. This book made me want to travel to Japan, made me want to go for a walk along it’s shore. Is this a good book?I dont know,i certainly liked it more that some of this later work. The characters are a lot more likable,I believe, and certainly more naive.I think that is because the writer was so inexperienced,it feels as if a child wrote it.
Women are always the same in Murakami’s novels.Peculiar, mysterious, full of emotional issues and always elusive.Sometimes it can be rather annoying and frustrating. The men on the other hand are emotionally incapable of dealing with their issues in a mature way.Hm,like i said i liked this one.
Thanks to Aman that urged me on and while this was in my list (since I am planing to read all of Murakami’s novels in 2015) I started earlier that I planned to and ending reading it in a day!
